The HDCC GRADING POLICY covers the club process for grading and handicapping. For current points and grades, see the club grade sheet.

Licensed riders compete in various types of races; Scratch, Criterium, Kermese and Handicap. At the Hunter District Cycling Club, a rider’s Grading is performance based and is revised regularly throughout the race calendar year.

Riders may have their grade adjusted up or down as required with consideration to:

  • Level of competitiveness in a particular grade.
  • Point Score.
  • Inconsistent performances, illness, injury, long absence from racing etc.

Results from any races deemed of equivalent standard and / or results from State Opens (or Masters events) may be used as well, but generally, points are accumulated by racing at Hunter District Cycling Club and Newcastle Cycling Club scratch races. Adjustments are at the discretion of the HD Handicapping Committee at all times. A rider profile will be kept to assist with any adjustments necessary. An appeals process is available for riders seeking reconsideration with supporting evidence.

Podium points have a life span of 6 months from when they are awarded. The following points will need to accrue in order to be eligible for consideration by the HDCC-NCC Cmbined Grading Committee to be moved up to the next grade:

From E Grade to D Grade 8
From D Grade to C Grade 10
From C Grade to B Grade 12
From B Grade to A Grade 15

Points will be allocated as follows:
1st place: 5 points
2nd place: 4 points
3rd place: 3 points

Please be aware that there will be no grade changes on race days. If you do need to discuss your grade, please email the handicap committee, at:
