Local Riders have sent in the following bunch rides...

Regular Group rides around Newcastle

 

IMPORTANT – Maximum 2 abreast; Always stop at red lights; Be aware of the rest of the bunch in front and behind you; Steer clear of parked cars and potentially opened car doors; Look past the rider in front of you for potential problems. Slow for corners and back off from the rider in front as you approach an intersection.

If you don’t know correct bunch etiquette, please ask a more experienced rider.


 

"Tuesday and Thursday 5:30am, starting KOFM (next to Hoyts) at Charlestown.

 

Grading: hard.  Front and rear lights required.

 

Tuesdays route focuses on hills in eastern Newcastle and returns to Charlestown about 7am.  The major hills have extensions that can be bypassed by anyone who has lost ground on the climb, allowing the bunch to re-group, accommodating a range of abilities.

Thursdays route is mostly flat and fast.  Going out to Jesmond, Industrial Drive, Newcastle Foreshore, and back to Fernleigh to return to Charlestown about 7am."

 


 Wednesday - Mornings

There is a bunch which leaves the racecourse at 7am. Raymond Terrace return, rolling turns prcticing paceline dicipline. Focus on smooth turns and transitions at speed.

Grade MEDIUM-HARD approx 70-80 kms by the time we get home. In town about 9.00am.


Saturdays – All year round

Meet 7am car park adjacent to Hadley Cycles Lambton.

Grading EASY        Distance  38k

Returning around 8.30am

Many people join along the way and some depart early, so you don’t have to go the whole distance. Bring your own pump and spare because we don’t stop for punctures and there are plenty of short cuts for riders who puncture.


 Saturdays – Winter racing season.

Meet 1pm Hadley Cycles Lambton for a brisk ride to Black Hill via Wallsend, Minmi for Hunter District club racing.

Grading  MEDIUM to HARD        Distance 21k

Arriving approx 1.45pm.

Depart after racing finishes approx 3.30pm for return ride via Hexham.


 Fridays – During daylight saving.

Meet 5pm Hadley Cycles Lambton for brisk ride (heavy traffic) to Kooragang Island for Hunter District club racing.

Grading MEDIUM to HARD Distance 12k returning after racing approx 7pm

Bring your lights at beginning of season and end of season.


Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays All year round. Broadmeadow racecourse (3k cicuit)

There are always groups of riders from around 6am.

Be aware of traffic coming from your right at the intersections. You do NOT have right of way and you should slow for corners and back off from riders in front of you as you approach each corner.


The Swansea ride leaves each Tuesday and Thursday - 6.00am from the water tower on Lookout Rd opposite John Hunter Hospital, main bunch meets outside Harvey Normans at Bennets Green 6.15am.  Straight down the highway to Swansea and back up to the top of Lookout Rd by 7.10am.
Ride is Very hard, some riders find it easier tho start from the top of Belmont hill, dropped riders usually turn short and join the main bunch on its return journey
